We are heading into the summer season. Even if the weather has still been on the cooler side, we’re starting to see hints of warmer weather. You need to make sure that your air conditioner is ready to perform correctly when the heat hits.
The problem occurs when your air conditioner isn’t going to be able to perform pretty much at all. An AC that is ready to be retired isn’t one you should keep around as things warm up. Let’s get into how you can determine whether or not your AC is ready to be replaced.
These Indicators Mean You Need to Replace Your Air Conditioner
If you have an outdated, inefficient air conditioner, you’ll want to make sure that you replace it before it leaves you frustrated and overheated this summer. Here’s how to tell that you need to schedule an air conditioner replacement in Bellevue, WA.
1. Your air conditioner is 10 to 15 years old
Your air conditioner won’t last forever. The average AC system last between 10 to 15 years before it needs to be replaced. If your air conditioner is in this age range, you’ll want to get started on preparing for a replacement, even if the system is still operating.
2. The system is using an out-of-production refrigerant
Another indicator that you are better off replacing your AC is when it uses an out-of-production refrigerant or a refrigerant about to be phased out of production. Refrigerant types like R-22 have been replaced by more efficient and eco-friendly alternatives. When a refrigerant type is phased out, this make recharges, or refills, of your refrigerant far more expensive—if not impossible.
3. Your AC is unable to provide cool air
An air conditioner that isn’t able to produce cool air is one that isn’t worth keeping around. A system that can’t do the one key thing that it is meant for needs to be replaced.
4. The system needs frequent repairs
How often does your air conditioner need to be fixed? If you only need repairs every few years, then your air conditioner is likely in good shape. However, if your AC is in need of repairs every year, or even twice a year, it is likely that the system needs to be replaced. The AC that needs yearly repairs is one that needs to be replaced.
5. Repairs for the AC are too expensive
Maybe you haven’t had to require frequent repairs for your system, but the repairs themselves are extremely expensive. If your air conditioner repair cost is equal to half or more of the cost of a new system, it is best to use your money to replace that system.
If you recognize any of the warning signs listed above, it is worthwhile to at least have a technician examine your air conditioner. If your AC does need to be replaced, your technician will let you know and guide you through the process to make it as easy as possible.
